�ֲ���ý��Ƶ's Department of Social Work, Education and Community Wellbeing (SWECW) places itself strategically to play a significant role in aiding societal recovery and repair beyond the pandemic period (Future of SWECW, 2021).

Together with the Department of Nursing, Midwifery and Health (NMH), SWECW have a wealth of expertise in working with our partners in the north-east and beyond, supporting professional development and being responsive to workplace needs.

In this series we showcase some of our expertise in teaching and in research, to our partners and interested parties. We can offer bespoke CPD provision (either accredited or non-accredited). Working collaboratively, we can blend our CPD offer with our research and knowledge exchange strategies.

Session 8: Using Different Forms of Knowledge to Help Teach and Assess
Delivered by: Dr Aidan Gillespie

We tend to think about learning as the acquisition of either information or the demonstration of a skill. However, learning is much more than this and there are dimensions of knowledge which do not fit neatly into binary categorisations. Exploring how we know something (epistemology) and as importantly, how this can be expressed will be the focus of this session. We'll look at your discipline and the types of teaching and learning that takes place there, delving deeper we'll explore the different forms of knowledge we may seek to develop and make these explicit. The outcome will be an awareness of the discreet forms of knowledge can streamline planning, teaching and assessment appropriate to different contexts and how this empowers both the educator and the learner.
