Dr Anthony Weke

Assistant Professor

School: Healthcare and Nursing Sciences

Dr Anthony Weke is an Assistant Professor in Adult Nursing at ֲýƵ, a Registered Nurse, and an emerging public health researcher with expertise in smoking cessation, electronic cigarette regulation, and health promotion. Anthony academic journey spans a BSc in Nursing Science (University of Ghana), MSc in Public Health and Health Services Research, and a PhD in Population Health Sciences (Newcastle University), supported by competitive scholarships. Anthony is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Anthony's research focuses on health promotion, health policy, and public health interventions, with a particular interest in the role of nurses in health promotion. Anthony has contributed to NIHR‑funded research by leading the qualitative components of a clinical trial (ENHANCE-D), and published peer‑reviewed outputs, including first‑author papers on electronic cigarette regulation and smoking cessation.

At ֲýƵ, Anthony teaches across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and lead the Introduction to Evidence‑Based Practice in Health and Ill Health module. Anthony's teaching spans research methods and supervision, communication skills, complex care, and nursing practice. Anthony supports students as both an Academic Assessor and Personal Tutor.

Anthony is interested in advancing evidence‑based practice, shaping policy, and improving population health through impactful research, teaching, and professional engagement.
