Dr Caroline Hood

Assistant Professor

School: Northumbria School of Law

Caroline Hood is an Assistant Professor in the School of Law at ֲýƵ and a non-practising solicitor. She joined Northumbria Law School in 2007, having trained and qualified with Thompsons Solicitors in Newcastle.

Caroline was awarded her Professional Doctorate in Law in 2025, with her thesis entitled “Expanding Experiential Learning in Law – The Development of an Apprenticeship Pathway to Qualification as a Solicitor: A Case Study from ֲýƵ in the North East of England.”

She has held senior leadership responsibilities within the Law School, most notably as Director of Education for Apprenticeships, where she led the design and development of the Northumbria Solicitor Higher Apprenticeship.

Caroline’s teaching and research are rooted in experiential and work-based learning. Her primary role is as an academic tutor in the Student Law Office. She also teaches work-based learning modules for solicitor apprentices, combining her professional expertise with a strong commitment to innovative legal education.
