New partnership offers direct route to a successful career in logistics

7th August 2018

Newcastle Business School has joined forces with NOVUS, part of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT UK), to enhance learning and employability for business students, and help plug a skills shortage in logistics.

NOVUS works with leading universities to provide students studying business, logistics and supply chain degrees with guest lectures, mentoring and career coaching, and work placements with key employers in the sector. Companies working with NOVUS to offer both summer and year-long industrial placements include Nestle, Heineken, DHL, Wincanton and Sainsbury’s.

From September 2018, students at Newcastle Business School will benefit from the NOVUS Lite programme through a range of learning experiences in the first and second year of their studies, and with high quality placement opportunities in their third year.

Dr. Zaina Gadema-Cooke, Programme Leader and Lecturer at Newcastle Business School, said: The logistics and supply chain management sector is a highly dynamic and exciting area, offering significant opportunities for graduates with the right skill sets than ever before.  This is why we are delighted to offer NOVUS Lite to our students to help them make the most of the opportunities arising from one of the fastest growing professions, both nationally and globally, over the next decade. Northumbria is already a top-ranked university for the number of our graduates in professional employment and our partnership with NOVUS will strengthen career prospects even further. It also reflects our focus on high quality partnerships to help deliver the best possible learning experience for our students.”

Bethany Fovargue, Operations Manager at NOVUS, added: “Adding ֲýƵ to the NOVUS family extends our university presence to five of the UK’s leading universities for logistics and supply chain management. Having a NOVUS presence in the North East allows our sponsors to benefit from wider geographic coverage, which is important, but of primary importance is the focus on employability that has shone through from ֲýƵ. NOVUS, our sponsors and our thriving student community look forward to welcoming ֲýƵ’s NOVUS Lite students in the new academic year.”

NOVUS is committed to providing superlative graduates as the long term, strategic answer to the serious skills gaps and shortfall of graduate talent evident in the logistics profession. Arla, Cummins, Kingfisher, Morrisons and PZ Cussons are just some of the 27 NOVUS sponsor companies giving NOVUS students placements and associated benefits.
