�ֲ���ý��Ƶ, Newcastle, is celebrating another top honour after scooping the British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) Workforce Programme of the Year award.

A record 246 nominations across nine categories meant the 2017 BUCS Awards Dinner was one of the most competitive yet.

However, Northumbria’s groundbreaking development programme impressed judges with its ability to prepare students for the workplace.

“The award reflects a very dedicated Sport team that includes staff and students working together on a daily basis on campus and throughout the community,” said Northumbria Student and Staff Development Manager Kate Hansbury. “We are exceptionally proud of the work that our students do and the impact they have within the University and our local communities. I'm sure they will all be delighted with this award.”

The very best in student sport was celebrated at the University of Hertfordshire’s Forum building with Northumbria represented in two major categories. In addition to the Workforce Programme nomination, Northumbria’s Claire Harper contested the BUCS Student Volunteer of the Year award.

The Workforce Programme award recognises an institution that has created a new or enhanced an existing student leadership and development programme to support the up-skilling and employability of their students.

Delighted Director of Sport Colin Stromsoy said: “It’s been another incredible year for sport at Northumbria and I couldn’t be happier.

“We pride ourselves in offering our students every opportunity to become workplace ready and there are so many examples of graduates who have been part of the Northumbria Sport team now making their mark in the wider world.

“I echo what Kate has said - the Workforce Programme of the Year award is a reflection on the hard work and dedication of a team of students and staff who make a huge difference through sport.”

�ֲ���ý��Ƶ has retained the Stan Calvert Cup four years running, in the UK's largest varsity competition against Newcastle University. The University’s sports facilities are ranked joint 7th in the UK and Team Northumbria secured 8th position in the 2014/15 British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) National League Table for the second year running.
