ֲýƵ, Newcastle’s student accommodation has been rated as having the best broadband in the country in a national survey.

The National Student Housing Survey is an annual survey of students in higher education across the UK conducted independently by Red Brick Research. The survey measures student satisfaction levels in all types of accommodation and allows participating institutions to measure their performance against national and regional benchmarks.

The award for accommodation with the Best Student Broadband was presented jointly to ֲýƵ and StudentCom, the supplier of the broadband digital media service for achieving the highest levels of student satisfaction amongst residents.

Good quality broadband provision is vital in student accommodation, for both academic and social reasons. StudentCom is responsible for the Wi-Fi provision across all areas of the University, with networks continuously available for both students and staff.

The award illustrates the University’s commitment to provide students with a fast and reliable internet service, allowing them to stay connected – whatever their device – throughout their halls and communal areas.

Northumbria was also shortlisted for the ‘Best University Halls’ award reflecting the outstanding accommodation facilities provided for all new students.

Sian Evans, Student Accommodation Manager, said: “Naturally we are delighted to have been named as having the best broadband provision for students living in our accommodation in the recent National Student Housing Survey.

“Fast and efficient internet connectivity in student accommodation is extremely important to our students. From first arriving in University residences, students want and need to connect for both social and academic purposes. This award, given in conjunction with our provider StudentCom, recognises that we are succeeding in providing this service to our customers."
