I commenced a degree in Biomedical Science with the intent of entering medical research. During my undergraduate degree I completed a unit of Forensic Science, which piqued my interest in this fascinating career path. I was successful in obtaining a graduate training position as a Forensic Scientist with the Forensic Science Service in Wetherby - which was the start of my career path.

Following ten years at the Forensic Science Service, I relocated to Sydney where I have undertaken numerous government roles for police and health forensic departments. Having provided DNA Expert Witness evidence in over 1,000 Australian and international serious crime matters I now operate my company Roebuck Forensics, providing independent forensic science and DNA expertise to lawyers. I also hold an Industry Fellowship within the Centre for Forensic Science, at the University of Technology, Sydney - where I am also currently undertaking my PhD in the field of DNA transfer at crime scenes.

What are you doing now?  

I currently own and operate Roebuck Forensics, providing DNA expert testimony.

What was it about Northumbria that made you decide to study here?

Predominantly it was the location - I wanted to study in a culturally diverse city with access to amenities.

What was it like studying at Northumbria?

Studying at Northumbria was a very positive experience. The teaching was in multiple modes and feedback was always readily available.

What was the best thing about your course?

The range of subjects was excellent; I had a narrow view of the roles that my degree may lead me to; but the range of subjects allowed me explore varying disciplines ultimately directing me into a field which I love and have remained in for over 20 years.

How did studying at Northumbria help you achieve your career goals/ give your career an edge?

The reputation of the University gave me a head start when applying for roles.

Which skills/knowledge did you learn on your course that you use most now throughout your career?

Critical thinking is key to my role as a forensic scientist, and I believe that �ֲ���ý��Ƶ really helped me to develop these skills throughout my undergraduate degree.

What did you enjoy most about your time at �ֲ���ý��Ƶ?

The connections I built with fellow students that have lasted decades beyond graduation.

What advice would you give somebody who is considering studying at Northumbria?

The University is a great choice; from both an academic and social perspective.

How would you describe your time at Northumbria in three words?

Challenging, inspiring and supportive.
