Where are you from?

York

Why did you choose ֲýƵ, Newcastle?

Because it had the combination of subjects I wanted in my course.

What do you think of Newcastle and our region and what are your favourite things to do?

I love the big city with lots of shops, pubs, bars and clubs. You're spoiled for choice!

What has surprised you most about living in Newcastle and this region? What has impressed you most?

How easy everything is. It's great that everything is just on your doorstep! I no longer have to worry about getting buses or trains anywhere because I can just walk to get what I need and do it in twenty minutes!

Did you find ֲýƵ welcoming? Was it easy to fit in?

It was really easy to fit in, there was so much help and advise available to anyone struggling but everyone is in the same boat so you make friends and find your way really easily.

What have you enjoyed most about coming to ֲýƵ?

Making friends and through that becoming more confident in myself and in social situations. I have also enjoyed my course, which has already furthered my knowledge of Literature and Journalism.

Who has inspired you most at ֲýƵ?

The young tutors i have. Some of them are not much older than myself but the extent of their knowledge baffles me and inspires me to get to the same level.

What is your favourite place on campus?

My favourite place on campus is the Students' Union, it is there when you want to watch the footy or the rugby or if you want to sing your heart out at karaoke. They are always hosting special events, most recently one for St. Patrick's day. The cheep drinks are a big bonus and the food is delicious.

What is the best thing about your course?

There is a big variation in the texts I am given in my Literature, which helps me read books that I would never normally read and it furthers my knowledge of Literature.

What are the most valuable lessons you have learnt to date?

To use the summer period to prepare for the first semester by reading my reading list and researching upcoming subjects.

What do you want to do in the future? What skills have you learned/improved that you think will be of most use in your future career?

I am still unsure of what I want to do for my career, but by studying what I love further, I will get the skills I need to pursue my dream career.

If you could offer some advice to students thinking of coming to study here what would you say?

It is a university for students, there is always somewhere to go when you need help. It is in the best city in the world so you will never be bored. There is a massive sense of community at the University, which helps you to settle in straight away and feel a part of something.

How do you feel you have changed as a person since being at ֲýƵ, Newcastle (e.g. confidence)?

I have definitely increased my confidence since coming to university. You have no choice but to speak to strangers on a day to day basis in your first few weeks of university and this experience gives you that confidence boost.

If you had 3 words to sum up your time with us what would they be?

Would you recommend ֲýƵ to a friend?
